    Petite 6" STAR TOOL CO. Bevel Gauge Gage - SELDOM SEEN!!
    Smallest size offered. Marked with Howard's 1867 patent date stamped in the Rosewood stock along with "Tool Co" surrounded by the outline of a five pointed star. 6" steel blade. Brass trim with Howard's distinctive diamond shaped brass tightening nut. The patent issued to Leonard D. Howard of St. Johnsbury, Vermont for the recessed locking nut was an innovation in carpenters bevel gages that was later widely used by Stanley and others. The gauge dates to between 1867 and around 1885.
    Graduated in 16ths to 5" on both sides of the blade!   It is in fine working condition with a beautiful patina on the metal and wood. It has been lightly cleaned to high collector standards. The brass has NOT been polished! There is no rusting or pitting on the blade. Dinging and scratching in the metal and wood is very very minimal. The patent stamp "Pat'd Nov. 5, 1867" is a little weak towards the end of the line but fully readable. Rates FINE even after
